Ministries: Nurture, Fellowship & Service

SERENDIPITY GROUP    This faith-sharing group meets every Tuesday at 9:00 A.M. at members' homes, and prays and shares, using the 'Serendipity' study book.

COMMUNITY BIBLE STUDY    Is hosted by First United Methodist Church of Reseda to help her members as well as those in community to grow in faith.  This group meets every Wednesday 6:55 P.M. in Friendship Hall and various class rooms for the purpose of spiritual formation through in-depth Bible study.

SEWING CLASS    Meets every Saturday morning from 10 A.M. to noon in Friendship Hall to learn how to sew, crochet, knit, embroider and quilt. The best thing about this group is its intergenerational character: in this class children, mothers and grandmothers interact with each other learning, teaching and enjoying altogether.

FOOD PANTRY    Serves our community by sharing food and love with those in need of them. Food pantry is open every Wednesday from 11 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.

M&M (Miss and Mrs.)    This group serves working women in this church and community who need Christian support from each other. They meet quarterly in members' houses or church.

SHARE SUPPORT GROUP    Meets on the second Thursday of each month at 10:30 am in the chapel. Participants share their stories and support each other with Christian conversations.

CHANCEL CHOIR    Leads the music at weekly Sunday Worship & on holidays; rehearses Thursday evenings at 7:30 P.M. in the church; presents Christmas Choir Cantata in December and an Easter Anthem in the spring.

CHILDREN'S CHOIR   This group which is under the leadership Ms. Myrtle Keefe practices and performs various genres of music for worship and church events.

F. R. A. N. PRAYER GROUP    This prayer group meets at the church on Tuesday mornings at 11:00 A.M. and prays for the concerns of the church and community, our Friends, Relatives, Acquaintances, and Neighbors.

GOLDEN AGE GROUP    The Golden Age Group (ages 55 and over) meets every Tuesday at 12 Noon in Friendship Hall at the church. Everyone brings a sack lunch and beverages are provided. The last Tuesday of each month alternates between a potluck lunch or a birthday party with cake & ice cream. Bread, cookies, and cakes or donuts are available for individuals to take home each week. Other activities include day trips and special luncheons throughout the year.

RETIRED MEN'S GROUP    Meets monthly for breakfast on the second Wednesday of the month at 8:00 A.M. at the church, with special guests during the year; for Valentines Day, & Christmas, women of the church are invited guests. Other activities include: assisting the UMW in the setup and cleanup for the Country Store; barbecue hamburgers/hotdogs for Wonderful Wednesdays; donating money to the Food Pantry and to Apportionments.

UNITED METHODIST MEN    Meet monthly on the third Saturday of the month, for breakfast and fellowship at 7:30 A.M. in Friendship Hall at the church. Programs include group discussions following the Serendipity Lessons for Men, self-contained material of Bible readings and discussion questions, and group discussions based on different selected books.

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN    Together we enjoy financially supporting many mission projects; prayer partners; supporting our 'friends-at-home'; the spring salad bar luncheon; the fall 'Country Store'; providing Thanksgiving and Christmas food boxes for families in need; participating in service projects at our church and elsewhere. As a group, we diligently strive to carry out the Purpose of United Methodist Women, which states:

'The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.'

The United Methodist Women at Reseda First has six fellowships:

Unit Meetings:    Held once a month at the church in Friendship Hall, alternating between Thursday and Saturday mornings on the first Saturday of: February, April, June, October, and December; and, the first Thursday of: January, March, May, September, and November. All Unit Meetings start with brunch at 9:30, followed by insightful and inspirational program presentations.
